Moderator Mary Jane Tiernan received a BA from the San
Diego College for Women, 1961, and her MA in English in 1972. She has
spent over 35 years in education as teacher and administrator at Schools
of the Sacred Heart, including Broadway, Lone Mountain, San Francisco,
and the University of San Diego. Mary Jane has served on the San Diego
Sacred Heart Alumnae/i Board since 1995 and is a past president of the
Associated Alumnae/i of the Sacred Heart San Diego.

Kathleen Wellman |
Kathleen Dunn Wellman received her BA from the
University of San Diego and her JD from the USD School of Law. A
practicing attorney since 1974, she is a founding member and past
president of the North County Chapter of Lawyers Club of San Diego; is
a former president of the San Diego Chapter of the Alumnae of the Sacred
Heart; and has been the recipient of numerous prestigious awards. Her
comments will describe her efforts as founding president and board
member of Caring Residents of Carlsbad, Inc. - a community non-profit
that built and supports La Posada de Guadalupe de Carlsbad, an emergency
homeless men's shelter.

Mary R. Schumacher, RSCJ, received her counseling
degree from Creighton University and post graduate degree in chemical
dependency at the College of New Jersey. In recovery for twenty years,
she is currently employed as a counselor at the Betty Ford Center.
"Sister Shu" will speak on the critical function of the volunteer
sponsor, a role similar to a Spiritual Director which is vital in the
recovery process.

Maureen Pecht King |
Maureen Pecht King, graduate of the San Diego College
for Women, is the current chairperson of the Mercy Hospital Foundation
Board and the immediate past Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of Mingei International Museum. Her service to community needs is
widespread and longstanding, resulting in numerous honors and awards.
Having co-chaired the Advisory Board for the San Diego Organizing
Project for 29 years, Maureen's presentation, "Teaching Men to Fish", is
a brief overview of the project and how that organization enables
individuals and communities through the gift of empowerment. Maureen is
also a past president of the Associated Alumnae/i of the Sacred Heart
San Diego.
